We're Ready For Her

I had a non-stress test yesterday which, I admit, was kind of stressful. Being hooked up to a machine for an hour listening to the baby's heartbeat and recording her movements seems like it wouldn't be so bad but my hands were sweating the entire time. Luckily for all of us the doctor said she's doing exactly what she should be doing, meaning she's still happy and healthy in her spaceship. That being said, as of Monday November 1, 2010, I will be 41 weeks. With the doctor's help we decided to schedule an induction for Sunday. That means anytime between 12:01am and 11:59pm on October 31st we will get a call from the hospital telling us that they have room for us at the inn. The doctor said the baby will arrive sometime between 6 and 24 hours after the induction starts. If I've done my math correctly that means the baby will be born sometime between October 31st and November 2nd. With this in mind we did the final tasks to get ready for this little one (car seat - check, diapers - check). Now the question is: should I be busy doing all the things that will be harder to do with a baby in tow or should I spend the day relaxing? Maybe a little of both. I think dinner out tonight is definitely in the cards.

Close But No Cigar

We thought maybe we were going to be heading to the hospital last night. I had some (pretty darn painful) contractions between 7pm and 8pm and then some more between 11pm and 12am. And then...nothing. I guess I was a little anxious because I ended up not being able to sleep. The couch, solitaire and a crossword puzzle did nothing to help stop my brain from thinking about what this whole childbirth thing is all about. I finally was able to relax enough to fall asleep at 4am. Maybe this is all just preparation for caring for an infant.

The Waiting Game

I am now two days overdue. Although that may not seem like a lot to you it feels like an eternity to me. Forty weeks (and two days) is a long time to wait for something. I have an appointment for a non-stress test on Friday afternoon where they will hopefully tell me that the baby is still happy and healthy living in her custom designed spaceship.
